MADISON, Wis. -

Officers from the Madison Police Department's West District community policing team provided the area with some extra protection last week, according to a statement from MPD.

The patrols came as a response to a series of reported attacks on the southwest bike path near Allied Drive. Some of those reports said teenagers were throwing rocks and chunks of concrete at passing bikers.

According to the statement, officers also went door to door to talk with members of the neighborhood in an effort to raise awareness about the attacks and other safety concerns in the area.

Madison officials said attacks along the bike paths are uncommon. They insist the recreational hot spots are safe.
