Residents of Madison’s Vera Court celebrated for what some might consider a bizarre reason: The addition of new speed bumps.
Neighbors had been pushing for ways to slow traffic down since June, when a nine-year-old girl was hit on her bike.
On Saturday, kids decorated their bikes to ride in a parade.
The community officer says he wants drivers to slow down in the busy neighborhood.
"Apartments on both sides and tons and tons of kids. While we wish that they were always watching out for themselves, we know that they're not," said David Dexheimer, Vera Court community officer. "So we're trying to put the onus on the drivers so that they know to drive safely."
The parade stopped at every bump to write messages.
