Madison leaf pickup routes starting
Crews are 2 weeks behind because of warm weather
As the weather gets cooler and leaves continue to fall, city workers are hitting the streets for leaf pickup.
The city started routes Monday with limited staff.
The Streets Division said it will add staff members as leaves start to fall. Right now, city crews are two weeks behind where they were last year, thanks to the warmer weather.
“The trees are not stressed. They’re not losing leaves. Last year at this time we had 18 crews out. Right now, we have four crews on each side of town, so we have eight,” said Chris Kelly, Madison Streets Division superintendent.
Leaf drop-off sites are now open at several Streets Division locations or residents can leave them on the side of the road for cleanup crews to collect.
