The Madison Water Utility won a blue ribbon Tuesday morning at the Wisconsin State Fair.
It's the first time the city received the honor in 27 years of the competition, according to Madison Water Utility spokeswoman Amy Barrilleaux. Madison won over 17 other municipal drinking water utilities.
Seventeen municipal drinking water utilities provided samples, which were judged on taste, odor and appearance.
Madison can now compete for a national title next spring in Boston.
The 27th annual contest was sponsored by the Wisconsin Water Association, a member of the American Water Works Association.
