VERONA, Wis. - Verona High School and Badger Ridge Middle School in Verona were placed under lockdown Thursday morning because of a threat involving the middle school.
Both lockdowns were lifted just after 12:30 p.m.
According to an email from the school district, Badger Ridge Middle School was under a level two lockdown after an individual called Badger Ridge Middle School and threatened to bring a weapon to the school. The school district said classroom doors were locked, and teachers and students remained in classrooms.
Verona police said 47-year-old John Strohman, the father of a student at the school, called a staff member and made a statement that caused concern for the safety of students and staff at the school.
Strohman was found at his home in Madison, according to the release. He told police he called the school because he was upset with school administrators regarding a recent incident involving his child.
Police said Strohman admitted his statements could be cause for concern, but that he had no intentions of causing anyone to feel threatened or concerned for their safety.
The school district said the high school was under a level one lockdown as a precaution due to the threat made to the middle school. The school district secured all external access to the building and closely monitored the situation.
Another email from the school district indicated after both lockdowns were lifted, they received a report of an individual using binoculars to observe students on the playground. The individual was on a hillside near the schools.
Verona police said the individual was cooperative and posed no threat to students or staff. They determined the individual was not connected to the lockdown and instructed the person to leave school grounds.
Strohman was arrested on tentative charges of disorderly conduct and unlawful use of a telephone.
