Unemployment up in most cities, counties

Dane County had lowest unemployment rate

MADISON, Wis. - Unemployment rates increased in most Wisconsin cities and counties in February.

The state Department of Workforce Development reported Wednesday that rates went up in 20 of the 32 largest cities between January and February. Sixty one of 72 counties had an increase.

Racine had the highest rate at 13.4 percent, which is up from where the city was a year ago when its rate was 12.5 percent. Caledonia had the lowest rate at 4 percent.

Menominee County had the highest unemployment at 15 percent. Dane County had the lowest at 5.5 percent.

Local unemployment rates are not seasonally adjusted and are based on a survey of 1,450 households.
