JANESVILLE, Wis. - Two men and a woman from Janesville were arrested after an investigation into a gas station burglary, according to Janesville police.
Officers were called to South Main Street and Kerwin Matthews Court at 1:17 a.m. Thursday for a suspicious persons report. A witness reported seeing two men and a woman carrying batteries and tire rims from the David Citgo gas station at South Main and East Racine streets.
Police said the witness recognized one of the men.
The group left in a vehicle before officers arrived, but police said the two men returned while police were interviewing the witness.
Marty Caban, 45, and Douglas Tuescher, 40, denied involvement and told officers they had just dropped off a woman, who was later identified as 42-year-old Michelle Sturdevant.
Police said they found a broken door at 38 Kerwin Matthews Court and discovered property similar to what the witness said was taken from the gas station.
A cellphone was found inside the gas station and police said the phone rang when they asked Caban to call Tuescher's phone.
Officers said they found Sturdevant at Tuescher's home in the 600 block of Chestnut Street. She initially denied involvement in the burglary but later confessed, according to officers. Police said stolen property was also found in the home.
Tuescher was arrested on suspicion of burglary, theft and a parole violation. Caban and Sturdevant were arrested on suspicion of party to the crime of burglary and theft, Caban was also arrested on suspicion of a probation violation.
