Program to track kids who live in drug homes

GREEN BAY, Wis. - Brown County officials hope a new pilot program will eventually help agencies figure out just how many local children live in homes where adults use or sell drugs.

The Green Bay Press-Gazette reported the Oneida Drug Endangered Children Team is among four groups in the state participating in the program.

It involves using a computer-automated system that allows social workers and law enforcement to share information and better provide long-term counseling and treatment services. The goal is to eventually duplicate the system for all such teams set up in 25 counties and five Native American tribes across the state.

The U.S. Department of Justice estimates that 9 million children nationwide live in homes where an adult uses illegal drugs.
