Police detain robbers confronted by homeowner

5 robbers fled when confronted by resident at Fitchburg home, officials say

FITCHBURG, Wis. - Fitchburg police detained five robbers who fled a residence after being confronted by the homeowner Wednesday morning, according to a release.

Officers responded to a report of an interrupted residential burglary in the 3000 block of Bryn Wood Drive around 11 a.m., officials said.

A resident was home when five robbers entered the residence wearing masks and carrying duffel bags, according to the release. When confronted by the homeowner the robbers left the residence.

Officers found the five robbers biking through the Dunn's Marsh Conservancy about 1 mile from the home, officials said. Evidence allegedly discarded by the robbers was found with help from a K-9 unit and a witness in the area.

Four 16-year-olds are being detained at the Dane County Juvenile Detention Center, and the 17-year-old is being held at the Dane County Jail pending formal charges, according to the release. Two of the robbers are from Madison, one is from Verona and one is from Chicago.
