TOWN OF BRISTOL, Wis. - The two adults found dead in a town of Bristol home Tuesday have been identified as Kevin S. Herskind, 53, and Julie A. L. Herskind, 52, according to a release.
According to preliminary autopsies, Kevin Herskind died from a self-inflicted firearm injury and Julie Herskind died as a result of a homicidal firearm injury.
An investigation revealed Kevin Herskind fatally shot his wife and their dog before committing suicide, officials said. Another small dog and three cats were removed from the home by Animal Control Tuesday.
Officials got a call for a welfare check around 1:15 p.m. Tuesday at 6710 Highway N when an employer became concerned that an employee had not shown up for work as expected, according to the release.
Sheriff's detectives said it is unclear what led to the violence. The investigation is ongoing.
"That's one thing that our detectives will continue to investigate over the next several days. They're looking to find out what might have led up to this," said Elise Schaffer, Dane County Sheriff's Department public information and education officer. "We don't have documented cases of domestic violence at the home but there could have certainly been instances where police or authorities weren't called; that's not unusual."
A friend of the couple told News3 he wasn't aware of issues between the two of them. That friend also said Julie and Kevin worked at Gardner Bakery on Madison's east side and were well-liked.People found dead in town of Bristol home ID'd
