WHITEWATER, Wis. - Whitewater police said a number of people were injured in a domestic disturbance and the suspect, who fled the scene with two children, was later arrested on multiple charges of attempted first-degree intentional homicide following a police chase.
Whitewater police responded to a call about 4 p.m. Monday concerning a child who had been cut during a domestic incident involving a man and several family members at a home on Janesville Street.
Before police arrived, the man fled from the house with two juvenile children, according to a Whitewater Police Department news release.
Two additional victims who had previously fled the house were transported to Fort Atkinson Memorial Hospital for treatment of significant injuries sustained during the domestic disturbance.
At about 4:20 p.m., Rock County Communications Center dispatchers broadcasted an attempt to locate the suspect, including a description of the vehicle he was driving when he left the house, and information that he may be heading to an address in Rock County.
At about 4:28 p.m., a Rock County sheriff's deputy located the vehicle traveling westbound on county Highway S near the intersection of Creek Road.
Authorities attempted to stop the vehicle, and a chase with speeds that exceeded 75 mph ensued in the city of Beloit, according to a joint news release from the Rock County Sheriff's Office and the Whitewater Police Department.
The suspect had made verbal threats about harming his juvenile passengers, sheriff's officials said.
Along with Rock County deputies, officers from the Town of Beloit Police Department, Beloit Police Department and Wisconsin State Patrol made efforts to end the chase and apprehend the suspect.
Authorities were able to end the chase on Skyline Drive near Wren Drive in the city of Beloit. The suspect was taken into custody at gunpoint and was transported to Beloit Memorial Hospital for evaluation of injuries, according to the news release.
Sheriff's officials identified the suspect as Larry M. Shannon, 40, of Whitewater.
Shannon was released from Beloit Hospital and is being held in the Rock County Jail pending Rock County charges of: recklessly endangering safety; fleeing to elude officers; operating with detectable amount of restricted controlled substance; operating after suspension; operating left of center; failure to stop at a stop sign and violation of a red traffic signal.
In Walworth County, Shannon faces charges of three counts of attempted first-degree intentional homicide and three counts of false imprisonment.
Shannon will appear in Rock County Circuit Court on Wednesday.
