Lawmakers reintroduce medical marijuana bill

Bill would also allow some to grow up to 3 ounces of marijuana

MADISON, Wis. - Two Madison-area lawmakers hope the recent passage of medical marijuana laws in other states could help their case in Wisconsin.

Rep. Chris Taylor, D-Madison, and Sen. Jon Erpenbach, D-Middleton, want to make Wisconsin the next state to legalize medical marijuana.

They argue those battling serious illness should have access to the drug to ease suffering.

"We're taking the situation where someone has to go to a back alley and buy the medication they need and put it in the light of day in a way that is compassionate and provides some dignity," said Taylor.

The bill also calls for reestablishing a regulatory system run by the Department of Health Services, and to allow some people to grow up to three ounces of marijuana.
