A woman was involved in a purse snatching outside of a bar Wednesday night in Janesville, and police want to see if there is connection to similar incidents recently.
Police said Wednesday night's purse snatching happened outside Bazingas Pub and Grill in the 1100 block of Kellogg just before 10 p.m. last night.
According to police, a 41-year-old Janesville woman was outside the bar smoking when an unknown man grabbed her purse off her shoulder.
Police said the person involved is described as a man in his 20s with short blond hair. He ran away on foot to the west of the bar before leaving in a vehicle.
Another purse was stolen Thursday at 2:30 p.m. The thief fled with two purses from one cart and is described as a tall white man in his 20s wearing a red Wisconsin hooded pullover and black sweat pants.
Police have investigated a number of similar incidents to this since Oct. 5 at places like Woodman's Grocery Store in Janesville and Boston Store inside the Janesville Mall. The purses have mostly been stolen from shopping carts when left unattended in Janesville's north side retail shopping area, said police. The thefts have taken place when the victim was shopping, checking out at the register, or in the parking lot unloading. Police said in one instance, a purse was stolen from a woman's hand.
It's not known whether any of the incidents are related. Anyone who knows anything about this incident is asked to call Janesville PD at 608-755-3100 or Janesville Area Crime Stoppers at 608-756-3636.
