Intoxicated woman attempts to steal food, hits Woodman's employee

Woman told police she has no memory of incident

MADISON, Wis. - A Woodman's customer said she didn't have any memory of an incident in which she hit an employee after attempting to steal food Christmas Eve.

According to a police report, Shacole Gailette Burks, 30, of Madison, had attempted to steal five bags of food from Woodman's Grocery Store on Madison's west side. When approached by employees, Burks became confrontational and struck a 54-year-old employee.

According to the report, an intoxicated Burks instructed officers who arrived on scene to call a toll-free number on the back of a credit card to verify transactions for the food had occurred. Officers called and said they learned no transactions had taken place.

Burks was taken into custody, but told officers she had no memory of the incident. She was charged with battery, theft and violating probation.
