MADISON, Wis. - The first group of new retailers that will open in the newly designed Hilldale mall were announced Tuesday.
The newly designed project, expected to open the fall of 2014, is being developed by WS Development from Massachusetts, according to the release. The firm's plan for Hilldale includes an open-air lifestyle layout with new stores.
The plan proposes to take the existing enclosed mall area between Metcalfe's and Macy's and create an open-air streetscape, officials said. The plan shows outward facing storefronts along the existing streets in the area, and adds an open-air retail connection through a pedestrian walkway to the west parking lot with additional storefronts.
Some of the stores coming to the new Hilldale development include Sur La Table and Pure Barre. Sur La Table offers cookware, cutlery, kitchen electronics and bake ware. Pure Barre offers a unique exercise experience that uses small isometric movements at the ballet barre set to music. Morgan Shoes, Stride Rite and New Balance, all current Hilldale stores, will also be moving to the new development.
"As a long-time tenant and staple of Hilldale Shopping Center, we are delighted to be part of the development of the center. It is sure to offer a dynamic new shopping experience for the Madison Market and will be an amenity to the area," Ken Morgan, owner of Morgan Shoes, Stride Rite and New Balance, said in the release.
Construction is scheduled to begin in early 2014, according to the release.
