MADISON, Wis. - The driver of a stolen vehicle and three passengers were arrested Saturday afternoon after leading police on a vehicle and foot chase, according to a release.
Madison police located a vehicle around 4:50 p.m. near South Whitney Way and Hammersley Road that was stolen in a Fitchburg incident on Friday, officials said.
When police initiated a traffic stop, the vehicle fled, according to the release. While going around a turn, the vehicle hit an uninvolved, occupied vehicle that was not moving.
The driver and a passenger then fled the vehicle on foot, officials said. The passenger was apprehended at the scene. The driver, Daniel A. Smith, was apprehended a short time later thanks to calls from neighbors reporting a person running through backyards and climbing over fences.
No one from the vehicle that was hit was injured, but one of the six subjects in the vehicle that fled suffered significant but non-life-threatening injuries, officials said.
Smith was arrested on charges of operating a motor vehicle without owner's consent, eluding officers, a hit-and-run, failure to render aid in a crash, two charges of resisting arrested, possession of marijuana, operating with a revoked license causing great bodily harm and on a probation hold.
Jacquese T. Murphy was a passenger in the vehicle and was arrested on charges of possession with intent to distribute a cocaine base, resisting arrest and bail jumping. Joshua D. Johnson was a passenger and was arrested on a probation hold. Marcus A. McGee was also a passenger and was arrested on charges of possession of THC.Madison crime map
