Crews have started using a high-pressure, jet-pulse, hot-water unit to open up frozen water pipes leading to homes. Fifty-three homes in the neighborhood near Copeland Avenue – including Tremont Drive and Sheridan, Prairie and Summit avenues – have not had running water for days. Some homes have been without water for 10 days. The unit requires crews to snake the device through the waterline until it reaches the ice blockage. At that point the unit shoots 70 degree water into the blockage until it melts.
