Clerk beaten during gas station robbery

Police release description of robber

MADISON, Wis. - A clerk was punched several times in the head during the robbery of a gas station Sunday morning, according to Madison police.

The 28-year-old victim told police the robber jumped the counter at the BP station at 4222 E. Washington Ave. at about 5 a.m. and ordered her to open the cash register.

The woman was struck in the head as she went to open the cash register, according to police.

The victim said the man didn't display a weapon but had a hand in a pocket making her think he might be armed.

The victim was not seriously injured.

The robber is described as black, in his mid-30s, 5 feet 6 inches tall, weighing 210 pounds with a slightly heavy build. He was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, baggy black jeans, black shoes and a black baseball cap.
