Candlelight snowshoe event features trails through 3 parks

1 mile snowshoe trail to be lit by over 200 candles, luminaries

MONONA, Wis. - Area parks will be hosting a snowshoeing event featuring a 1-mile snowshoe trail lighted by more than 200 candles and luminaries, according to a release.

Candlelight Snowshoe will be held on from 5-7 p.m. Saturday, organizers said. The free event will be held at three Monona parks.

The Aldo Leopold Nature Center at 300 Femrite Drive will be open as a warming shelter with bathrooms during the event, according to the release. A camp fire will also be available to warm up outside.

Trails open during the event wind through the Edna Taylor Conservation Park, Monona's Woodland Park and the Aldo Leopold Nature Center with trail entrances at each location, according to the release.

Organizers encourage participants to bring their own snowshoes, but a limited number of snowshoes will be available to use.

The event is weather dependent, so if there is no snow the Candlelight Snowshoe will be held as a Candlelight Hike, according to the release. If there is bad weather, the event may be canceled.
