MADISON, Wis. -

Local businesses are joining together to help keep pets in their homes, according to a release from the Dane County Humane Society.

According to the release, 25 businesses are hosting donation barrels through the end of the month to support DCHS and the Community Action Coalition of South Central Wisconsin 'Keep pets in their home' pet food drive.

Donated pet food will go to families in need so they don't have to give up their pets. "Since the program began in December 2011, the program has collected and distributed over 30,000 pounds of pet food and kitty litter to local pantries," said DCHS spokeswoman Gayle Viney.

Donations of pet food can be taken to various businesses in Dane County, found here.
