Janesville police said a chase in a residential neighborhood involved a 21-year-old Janesville man has led to numerous charges being filed against himl.
The incident started around 11:20 p.m. Thursday, when a Janesville police officer investigating a theft complaint saw a car take off down South Ringold Street at a high rate of speed.
Police said the officer started a pursuit and chased the driver, Alex Schenck, down the street. During the chase, police said Schenck turned off his headlights, drove through stop signs, and was speeding as fast as 60 mph down residential streets. The officer stopped the pursuit after a few minutes for safety reasons.
A few seconds later, police said Schenck's driving forced another Janesville squad car off the road, which led the pursuit to continue.
Police lost him in the area of Racine Street and Palmer Drive, but found the car unoccupied in the rear parking lot of a bar in the 2200 block of South Racine Street. Police set up a perimeter and a K-9 unit found a set of footprints. Another officer saw Schenck about 5 blocks away from the bar, where he was arrested.
Schenck faces numerous charges, including drug possession, reckless endangerment and fleeing from an officer.
