Police forced into apartment after hearing woman cry for help
A Madison man was charged with possession of a firearm while intoxicated, false imprisonment and underage person possession or consumption of alcohol.
Madison police were dispatched to the 1700 block of Onsgard Road around 2:35 a.m. June 29 for a disturbance, but were not sure as to the nature of the incident.
According to a report form Madison police, police attempted to contact James York, 19, who was inside the apartment. York said he didn't know why police had been called and retreated back to his apartment.
According to the report, police then heard a woman cry for help inside the apartment and officer forced their way inside. They immediately took York into custody.
At the scene, officers confiscated a 12-gauge shotgun round from York's pocket. The report states further interviews indicated York had confronted several people in the parking lot with a loaded shotgun, forcing them to go back to his apartment against their wills.
According to the report, officers were told York racked the shotgun and began pacing and yelling about money each person owed him. He told them no one was allowed to leave and they would get shot if they didn't pay.
The shotgun was also recovered at the scene. No one was hurt.
