The Dane County Department of Human Services is expanding operations and opening a new express office in Sun Prairie off of West Main Street.
“This is huge for Sun Prairie,” supervisor Nick Zweifel, who represents portions of the city on the Dane County Board of Supervisors, said in a release. “Many people who need county services have a hard time getting to downtown Madison, so we really need to bring services to them. I’m thrilled that we’ll be able to do that.”
No county staff will be housed permanently at the express office but will use the space for meetings and visits with residents by appointment.
“We will probably meet the needs of 100 families in the area, and that number will increase as time goes by,” said Zweifel.
Social service nonprofit Sunshine Place owns the building where the new office is located, according to the release. The Dane County budget allocates $12,000 per year to lease and operate the office.
Budget cuts in 2011 forced a permanent DHS office in Sun Prairie to close.
