MADISON, Wis. -

A social experiment is helping turn one man's life around. Tim Metcalfe, the owner of Metcalfe's Market, recently spent a couple of days living as a homeless person.

Because of that experience, he and two other community leaders coordinated a mass giveaway - with sleeping bags, clothing and other items. While doing that, Metcalfe met a man named Matthew and told him to stop by the store to apply for a job.

Metcalfe asked dozens of people to stop by the grocery store and Matthew was the only person who took him up on the offer.

“It was a simple conversation and so it worked out great for him, we're excited to have him, it's a great opportunity for him,” said Metcalfe.

Matthew will start after the New Year.
