MADISON, Wis. -

The robbery of a store was interrupted by an employee returning from a break, according to Madison police.

Officers said the robber entered Batteries Plus at 3721 E. Washington Ave. Sunday afternoon and ordered a clerk to open the cash registers. The 30-year-old clerk told police the robber had a hand in his pocket and she believed he might be concealing a gun.

A 29-year-old male employee coming back from a break entered the room and surprised the robber, who left empty-handed, police said.

The robber is described as black, in his mid-20s, 6 feet tall, weighing 210 pounds with short hair and facial stubble. He was wearing a dark blue fleece coat with buttons over a black hooded sweatshirt, dark shoes and blue jeans with “fancy” stitching on the rear pockets.
