University of Wisconsin System officials are recommending a Minnesota state university vice president as the next chancellor of UW-Eau Claire.
James Schmidt currently is vice president for university advancement at Winona State University. Schmidt also is executive director of the WSU Foundation Board of Trustees.
UW System President Kevin Reilly and a special committee of the UW System Board of Regents announced their recommendation of Schmidt Monday. The full board is scheduled to act April 5.
KAGE Radio reported Schmidt will step into his new leadership role in July. The Winona State graduate joined the university in 1998 overseeing development, government relations and marketing.
