A dump truck driver was injured Monday afternoon when his truck hit a guard rail and went into a culvert after he swerved to avoid hitting a deer, officials said.
Crews responded to the single-vehicle crash on Highway K just west of Church Road in the town of Springfield around 1:05 p.m., according to a release.
Jamie G. Thompson, 40, of Rio, was driving a large dump truck when he swerved to avoid hitting a deer, causing him to lose control, officials said. The truck then hit a guard rail and went into a culvert.
Thompson was treated for minor injuries at the scene, according to the release. The truck sustained extensive front-end damage.
Crews also assisted with a large fuel spill that resulted from the crash, officials said.
Thompson was cited for failure to maintain control of his truck.
