MADISON, Wis. -

The truck driver that caused a crash that killed Al and Janet Studesville will have charges of criminally negligent homicide referred against him, according to officials.

The crash that killed the Madison couple in Texas on June 4 was caused by Dewayne Buck reaching down to grab a chocolate bar, according to law enforcement.

The investigator will meet with the prosecuting attorney and if they determine there’s enough evidence, the case will go before a grand jury, said Trooper Christopher Ray.

The Studesvilles died when the Texas Department of Public Safety says a semitrailer crossed the center line of U.S. Highway 54 in north Texas and hit their motorcycle head-on.

Ray said the crash happened June 4 on a rural two-lane highway.

Besides working at Madison College, Al was a civil rights leader, and with Janet, owned the Just Nails salon in Fitchburg. Their son is Denver Broncos running back coach Eric Studesville.
