MADISON, Wis. -

Officials with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation are suggesting that weekend drivers avoid peak travel times along Interstate 39/90/94 in Dane and Rock counties.

Heavy volumes of traffic heading north on Friday afternoon and returning south Sunday afternoon will create delays, officials said. Motorists are advised to avoid traveling at those peak times or to use alternate routes.

In addition to heavy traffic, the construction zone at Highway 151 near Madison is expected to cause delays, according to a release. Three lanes of traffic are open in each direction, and crews will not be working during peak travel times, but the northbound lanes are split to accommodate construction and speeds are reduced to 55 miles per hour.

Drivers can get up-to-the-minute information on work zones and incidents that may affect travel by dialing 511 or visiting Wisconsin 511 online.
