Donna's Apple Crostata With Streusel Topping

This is such as attractive dessert that your guests will think you went to a lot of work but it is really simple to prepare. Enjoy it without guilt because it has half the calories and half the fat of the original recipes.

Crust 1 -9 inch prepared pie crust

Filling 2 tablespoon Splenda or sugar 1 tablespoon butter, melted 1/2 teaspoon vanilla 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg 4 large Golden delicious apples, peeled, cored, and thinly sliced

Crumb Topping 1/4 cup oatmeal 1/3 cup flour 1/4 cup brown sugar 1/2 teaspoon salt 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon 3 tablespoons cold butter or margarine, cut in small pieces

Egg wash 1 egg white, lightly beaten 1 teaspoon sugar

Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Place parchment paper on large baking pan with sides. Roll pie crust out onto parchment paper. Set aside. In a large bowl, combine Splenda, butter, and vanilla. Add sliced apples and stir to coat apples. Spoon apples onto middle of pie crust leaving a 2 inch border.

To prepare the topping, place oatmeal in a small food processor and process until finely ground. Place oatmeal in a small bowl. Add all remaining crumb ingredients. Using a knife or pastry blender, cut butter into dry ingredients until mixture resembles course cornmeal. Sprinkle topping over the apples. Pull the edges of the pie crust up and pinch dough every few inches to help it stay in place. Brush the folded up edges of dough with egg white and sprinkle with sugar.

Bake for 35 - 45 minutes or until crust is lightly brown and apples are tender.
