DOJ preps anti-heroin campaign, grants
Ad campaign targets young people
The state Department of Justice is getting ready to launch an anti-heroin media campaign and hand out grants to help local governments combat the drug.
The media push will include at least one statewide television spot and radio spot as well as a website designed to warn young people about the drug. The effort is expected to launch in late summer or early fall and cost about $250,000.
The agency also is looking to award up to $125,000-worth of one-time grants to local governments with wide-ranging ideas on how to use police, social service agencies and health care providers in team efforts to combat and treat heroin use. DOJ officials are currently sifting through the applicants.
