DOJ: Madison man charged with drug trafficking, gun crimes
38-year-old allegedly had firearm intended for use in distributing drugs
A 38-year-old Madison man was charged Wednesday with possessing a firearm and drug crimes, according to a state Department of Justice release.
Lonnie Whitaker was charged with possessing cocaine, heroin and marijuana with intent to distribute, according to the release. He was also charged with possessing a firearm for the purpose of a drug trafficking crime and being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition.
The indictment alleges Whitaker had cocaine, heroin, marijuana, a .40-caliber pistol and ammunition on Jan. 15.
If convicted, Whitaker faces 20 years in federal prison for the cocaine and heroin charge, five years in federal prison for the marijuana charge and 10 years in federal prison on the firearm charge. For the possession of a firearm for use in drug trafficking charge, Whitaker faces up to life in federal prison.
