A petition was filed Friday under the state’s sexual predator law against Anthony Jones to have him committed for treatment, according to a release.
The 54-year-old Dane County man is a sexually violent person and should be committed for treatment, according to the petition.
Jones was convicted of three counts of second-degree sexual assault/use of force with increased penalty for habitual criminality in Dane County Nov. 29, 1993, but his sentence was withheld, according to the petition.
Officials said Jones was scheduled to be released from the Department of Corrections Tuesday but will be detained at a Department of Health Services facility to await trial on the petition.
The petition alleges that Jones suffers from a mental condition that predisposes him to engage in acts of sexual violence. It also alleges that he is dangerous as his mental disorder makes it likely that he will engage in future acts of sexual violence.
A probable cause hearing is scheduled for Aug. 30.
