BOULDER JUNCTION, Wis. -

Campers can now check the availability of campsites in the state’s largest forest online or via an iPhone app, according to a release.

The campsite availability systems are for Wisconsin’s largest state forest, Northern Highland-American Legion State Forest, which has nearly 900 campsites, according to officials.

Four campgrounds, Crystal Lake, Big Musky, Firefly and Clear Lake, have campsites that can also be reserved online, officials say. The rest of the campsites at smaller campgrounds throughout the state forest are available on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Forest staff members say they will update the campground availability throughout the day to keep the website and iPhone app as current as possible.

The availability of sites that can be reserved is only posted for the current day because those sites may be reserved the following day, according to the release. The availability of sites that cannot be reserved can be checked two weeks in advance.
