The public will get a chance to sound off later this month on a proposal to dispose of dredging waste on Washington Island.
The Town of Washington has proposed dredging the Detroit Harbor Navigational Channel to improve access for the Washington Island Ferry Line. The town has asked the state Department of Natural Resources for permission to dispose of about 134,500 cubic yards of dredged material on town property.
The DNR has made a preliminary determination that the plan wouldn't cause any significant adverse effects on the environment.
The agency has scheduled a public hearing on the disposal proposal for Aug. 27 at the island's Mosling Recreation Center. The agency also will take written comments through Aug. 26.
