BAGLEY, Wis. -

A girl was injured and a dog was thrown down a flight of stairs during a domestic disturbance on Saturday, according to the Grant County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies were called to a home on South Burlington Street in Bagley at 1:01 a.m. for a report of a disturbance. The dispatcher said a man could be heard yelling in the background and was told a girl had an injured wrist.

A Wisconsin State Patrol officer arrived on scene first and had attempted to separate Shawn Martin, 37, of Bagley, from the others in the home. The officer said Martin refused to leave the others in the home and resisted when the officer forced him to leave.

Deputies said Martin had been intoxicated and forced his youngest child to make vulgar, disorderly, violent and abusive statements to his wife, who is the child’s mother. The deputies also learned that Martin had thrown one of the family dogs down a flight of stairs during the disturbance.

Martin was arrested on suspicion of disorderly conduct related to a domestic abuse case, resisting arrest, maltreatment of animals, physical abuse to a child, recklessly causing bodily harm and causing mental harm to a child.
