A man accused of fatally attacking his neighbor with a crowbar in Eau Claire County has been committed to a mental health institution.

Circuit Judge William Gabler issued a lifelong commitment for 52-year-old James Olson Wednesday after finding him not guilty by reason of mental illness. Olson had pleaded guilty to attacking Paul Oberle when the victim returned to his home following an overnight shift at an Eau Claire grocery store last June.

The Eau Claire Leader-Telegram reported the victim's son found his father fatally beaten in the backyard of his home.
