MADISON, Wis. -

Voters in Dane County will be able to check a new box in the voting booth this spring -- whether they think the Wisconsin should legalize marijuana or not.

According to a release from the Dane County Board, the ballot in April 2014 will ask voters if they think the state should legalize marijuana for any purpose. The ability to take the vote was passed by a unanimous resolution.

Some Dane County residents testified legalizing the drug would create green jobs. Others said calling for the referendum will help address a growing race gap within Dane County.

Currently 18 states have legalized marijuana in some capacity. Colorado and Washington are the only states to legalize cannabis for recreational use.
