MADISON, Wis. -

The Dane County budget was signed and made official Wednesday by County Executive Joe Parisi.

At a gathering with young people at the Boys and Girls Club Parisi said much of his focus was on funding to help kids succeed in school as well as in their communities from birth to adulthood.

Some of his initiatives included allocating more money for early childhood programs, housing assistance to keep kids from being evicted and an apprenticeship program through the Boys and Girls Club.

“It reinforces the fact that helping everyone reach their potential is not only the right thing to do, but it’s the smart thing to do for our community and for the world,” Parisi said.

The $560 million budget will increase the county portion of the property taxes on the average Madison home by about $21.
