Sintex-Wausaukee Composites officials announced Thursday that the company will be closing its Cuba City facility and subsequently laying off employees.

Officials said the layoffs, starting Friday, will affect approximately 33 employees at the facility at 1010 S. Main St.

The Sintex-Wausaukee Composites single-purpose production facility in Cuba City manufactures wind-turbine components, according to a release.

Officials said the facility’s primary customer unexpectedly terminated production at one of its own facilities and consequently terminated all of its current and future purchases of Wausaukee products.

The customer also advised that it will not order components from the facility in the future, according to the release.

Officials said Wausaukee has been unable to identify or secure any new customers or other wind-energy business to replace the loss of its primary customer.

The Cuba City facility employed 36 employees, according to the release. Three employees have accepted a transfer to positions at the company’s other facility in Wausaukee.
