Gov. Walker tries to lower his profile

Gov. might be trying to moderate his image

MADISON, Wis. - Scott Walker rose to national prominence as a new Republican governor when he launched a successful effort to break the power of public employee unions in Wisconsin and then survived a union-led recall effort.

But as other Republican governors stake out their legislative goals this year, Walker has decided to lay low.

As he begins his third year, Walker said he won't tackle anything that would provoke large protests or distract from his effort to create 250,000 jobs by the end of 2014.

Democrats are skeptical that Walker won't still make another big partisan move. But others believe Walker is concerned about re-election in 2014 and eager to moderate his image for a future national campaign.
