Columbia County man to be extradited on Florida gang rape charges

Gov. Scott Walker signs extradition warrant Friday

Columbia County man to be extradited...

PORTAGE, Wis. - Gov. Scott Walker has signed an extradition warrant to send a Columbia County man back to Florida where authorities said he is wanted for his involvement in a nearly 20-year-old rape case.

Robert Sheridan Haar, 42, is wanted in Volusia County, Florida, in connection with a 20-year-old cold case.

Florida officials said he was involved in the gang rape of a 14-year-old girl in October 1997. He was arrested in Portage on March 17 and has remained since then in the Columbia County Jail.

Judge Alan White ordered the state on March 21 to hold Haar on $25,000 bail for 30 days pending the signing of a governor's warrant for his extradition to Florida.

News 3 contacted the governor's office Friday morning to ask about the status of the warrant request.  As of 10 a.m., a spokesman for the governor said the warrant was in transit to the governor's office from the Department of Justice after their legal review and he had not yet signed the document.

Columbia County sheriff's Capt. Darrel Kuhl confirmed just before 1 p.m. Friday that the governor's office had emailed an electronic copy of the signed warrant, which would be followed by a copy in the mail.

Kuhl said they would immediately notify Daytona Beach authorities that they could proceed with the extradition.
