Officials report miscommunication: 3 dead in crash near Janesville, not 4
Crash closes part of Highway 14 near cross with Highway 140
Rock County Sheriff's officials said due to miscommunication between hospitals and law enforcement they are now reporting three people died in the two-vehicle crash Saturday morning and not four.
The 14-year-old that officials originally reported had died at the scene is alive and improved to stable condition overnight at UW Hospital, according to a release.
The Rock County Sheriff's Office said a 2009 Honda driven by Talia Enciso, 18, did not yield the right of way at a stop sign when she was driving on State Highway 140 in Bradford township.
Authorities said the car entered the intersection of Hwy. 140 and Hwy. 11/14 around 10 a.m. and a 2005 Dodge Ram struck the car.
Enciso, along with family members Alvino Ortiz, 43, and a 7-year-old died at the scene. Authorities said Enciso was from Sharon, Wis.
Two people in the Ram were not hurt.
Motorists were detoured for about 3.5 hours but all lanes were reopened at 2:08 p.m., according to traffic officials.
No citations are expected to be issued.
