A crash on Interstate 39 had traffic backed up in both directions for about an hour and a half Saturday afternoon, officials said.

The accident happened at about 12:57 p.m. on Interstate 39/90 and had caused vehicles to move slowly on the roadway on the northbound and southbound sides.

The Wisconsin State Patrol said emergency vehicles on the scene and heavy traffic compounded the traffic issues caused by the accident.

At about 1:40 p.m., Department of Transportation cameras showed vehicles headed east on I-39 South, I-90 East were at a near standstill. Traffic headed north was affected but appeared to moving more steadily.

By 2:21 p.m., traffic flow had resumed on both sides of the interstate.
