A couple were arrested after breaking bottles, flipping tables and attacking a bartender on the 100 block of South Pickney Street in Madison Saturday night.
According to a report form Madison police, Thomas S. Sturtevant, 24, and Sarah E. Gifford, 25, both of Madison, were asked to leave after Sturtevant had become frustrated with bar staff while trying to close his tab around 12:10 Saturday night.
According to police, Sturtevan began knocking bottles off the bar. When staff tried to calm him down he challenged a bartender to take matters outside. The bartender and bouncer then tried to escort Sturtevan out of the bar.
According to the report, Gifford stepped in and began to slap, push and scratch the bartender. Sturevant began attacking staff as well.
More bouncers tried to remove the couple, Gifford spit at the staff and a table was overturned breaking glass. According to the report staff then called MPD.
According to police, when officers arrived, Sturevant hid behind parked cars in a nearby parking ramp. When officers found him, he ran and was caught near a portable toilet and was taken into custody.
According to the report, Sturevant is charged with disorderly conduct, resisting an officer and jumping bail. Gifford is charged with battery.
Both were taken to Dane County Jail.
