MADISON, Wis. -

There is plenty of trash and treasure showing up on downtown streets Thursday and Fridays as the annual move out and move back in melee gets underway.

Thousands of people are coming and going from apartment leases, and they are leaving electronics and furniture behind, but sofa sleepers and electronics, like TVs or computers, cannot be left on the curb.

Crews want residents to drop off reusable items at designated donation sites, like the U-Haul on West Washington Avenue, at Mills and Spring streets and at Goodwill donation stations in numerous apartment buildings.

“We want things picked up and we want to keep the neighborhoods looking clean. We want to keep it safe for not only our staff, but for the general public as well, because there are always problems that arise with stuff stacked out at the curb,” Madison recycling coordinator George Dreckmann said.

Cleanup crews said residents should fill their trash cans with as much garbage as they can handle, because they picked up trash Thursday, but they will be back for more Friday.
