Central Library location to close, new building opening Sept.
Hamilton Street location will close Aug. 31, Mifflin Street location will reopen Sept. 21
The interim location of Madison’s Central Library will close to the public Aug. 31 in preparation for the new Central Library building opening Sept. 21, according to a release.
The interim library at 126 S. Hamilton Street will close to the public Aug. 31 at 5 p.m., according to the release. The Central Library will reopen at 201 W. Mifflin St. on Sept. 21 at 9:30 a.m. following a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
The library will celebrate its opening with a weekend of celebration Sept. 21 and 22.
Central Library staff encourages customers to contact them before Aug. 30 for assistance in transferring their holds to another location during the closure or inactivating their holds until the Central Library opens at the Mifflin Street location.
Hold that have been placed for Madison PL – Central will be available at 126 Hamilton St. until the last week of August, according to the release. After the last week of August, holds for Madison PL – Central will be available at the Hawthorne Library (2707 E. Washington Ave.) until Sept. 20. All holds for Madison PL – Central will be available at 201 W. Mifflin St. starting Sept. 21.
Central Library customers may return library materials to the interim location on Hamilton St. until Aug. 30 or may return items to the new Central Library building on Mifflin Street (Mifflin Street book drop only), officials said. Library materials may also be returned to any other public library in the South Central Library System.
The Central Library will reopen with a series of events in September, including the Foreword grandt opening gala fundraiser on Sept. 7, the STACKED! Fundraiser on Sept. 19, and the public Grand Opening Weekend on Sept. 21 and Sept. 22, according to the release.
