A 13-year-old boy was struck by a car Monday morning while he was riding his bike near Bird Elementary School, according to Sun Prairie police.

Police said they were called at 7:04 a.m. to the intersection of North Bird Street and Tower Drive on a report of a boy who had been struck by a car while crossing the intersection.

The boy suffered an injury to a wrist. He was taken to a hospital for treatment.

The driver of the car, a 59-year-old woman, was cited for failure to yield right-of-way to a bicyclist.

Sun Prairie police told News 3 that the sun might have played a role in the crash.
