It looked like most restaurants on Thanksgiving until you glanced at the menu. Every seat at the Green Own Cafe; was filled with customers hungry for a Thanksgiving dinner.
The difference is on this Thanksgiving menu you won’t find a turkey.
"There are a lot of vegetarians and vegans out there that generally only eat the sides on Thanksgiving so this is a way for people to come together and have a complete meal in a nice environment," said Jennie Capellaro, owner of the Green Owl Cafe.
The Thanksgiving menu featured many items familiar to a traditional holiday offering, including mashed potatoes, gravy, cranberries, broccoli and cauliflower. The notable difference was the turkey was replaced with an orange-soy basted tofu turkey filled with stuffing.
The restaurant offered a four-course single seating for Thanksgiving. The popularity of the vegan Thanksgiving can be measured in the 56 seats that sold out quickly to reservations.
"We did the meal for the first time last year and it went great and everyone really enjoyed it so we had a great response this year as well. We filled up and we had to turn some people away actually. So maybe next year we’ll do a second seating," said Capellaro.
