A purse snatcher got more than he bargained for when he tried to steal a purse on Madison’s south side Monday night.
According to police, the would-be thief tried to steal a purse from a 41-year-old woman in the 220 block of south Park Street just before 9 p.m. Monday.
But police said when the stranger ran up behind the woman, she threw an elbow, which caught the robber in the throat. She managed to hold on to her purse with her free hand.
The blow caused the man to take off south toward West Badger Road.
Police are looking for a black man, 20-25 years old, five feet eight inches to five feet ten inches tall, with a medium complexion, last seen wearing baggy blue jean shorts and a baggy white T-shirt.
Anyone who has information about the incident is asked to call Madison Crime Stoppers at 266-6014.
